Victorian Heart Hospital
The Victorian Heart Hospital, a landmark capital development to create Australia’s first dedicated cardiovascular hospital and research institute, will be established at Monash University’s Clayton campus for completion in 2021-22. The new facility, bringing together high quality and capacity clinical services, outstanding research capability, and education programs at all levels, represents an outstanding philanthropic proposition as well as an incredible asset for the University’s teaching, research and community impact. In particular, a comprehensive heart institute with infrastructure akin to the best heart hospitals in the world will drive an unprecedented focus on cardiovascular research, creating immediate benefits for patients in Victoria and long-term benefits for heart patients worldwide.
Mental Health Research
Monash has an international reputation for translational research in mental health, transforming lives through improved diagnosis, treatment and interventions. With specialisms including women’s mental health, addiction and compulsive behaviours, working across the full spectrum of bench to clinical research, Monash has enjoyed considerable philanthropic support in this area and there is significant capacity to build on our track record.
Alexander Theatre and Cultural Precinct
Since opening in 1967, the Alexander Theatre has played a defining role in the history of performing arts at the University and served as the host venue for numerous local, regional and national performing arts organisations. Thanks in part to a significant grant from The Ian Potter Foundation, the Theatre is now undergoing a major refurbishment as the centrepiece of what will become The Ian Potter Centre for Performing Arts. The precinct will further enhance Monash’s commitment to supporting growth in the performing arts in Melbourne’s south-east by providing state-of-the-art facilities to world class professional productions, students, community groups, schools and local residents.
Castan Centre for Human Rights
Affiliated to the Faculty of Law, The Castan Centre is a world-renowned academic centre that is creating a more just world, where human rights are respected and protected, allowing people to pursue their lives in freedom and with dignity. The Centre’s innovative approach to public engagement and passion for human rights has influenced legislation and public policy, improved government officials' understanding of human rights in Australia and elsewhere, and nurtured a generation of human rights leaders through its outstanding student programs.
Following years of research at Monash
University’s Faculty of Science, the Eliminate
Dengue program has now gained widespread support for its pioneering work in
suppressing the spread of the Dengue virus between mosquitos and humans. Now
running large scale field trials in Australia, Indonesia, India, Vietnam,
Brazil and Columbia, the project has the potential to save and improve
countless lives around the world. For philanthropists, the project illustrates
how University-based research can rapidly address real-world crises, and create
profound impact well beyond the campus community.
