A gift to the National Gallery is a gift to the nation.
The National Gallery exists to connect people with great art. For almost two hundred years they have cared for their collection in trust for the nation and encouraged the widest possible access for everyone's education and enjoyment.

NG200 will involve a series of capital projects to make the building fit for purpose in its third century. These will be accompanied by an unprecedented and diverse public programme at the Gallery, on Trafalgar Square, across the UK and digitally around the globe. They will celebrate the National Gallery as a centre of excellence and world-class scholarship, funding strategic investment in their environmental, organisational and financial sustainability that will underpin the Gallery’s long term flourishing.
The National Gallery has always been free to visit. It is this overarching commitment to their visitors of all ages, and from all backgrounds and walks of life, that the Gallery wants to re-affirm and extend, as they look ahead with ambition and excitement to the future. Together, the NG200 capital and public programme will have a major impact in supporting the Gallery’s core purpose to deliver public benefit by increasing access to and enjoyment of the collection alongside the diversity, reach and ranges of their visitors.
Philanthropy plays a critical role in furthering these ambitions and an opportunity has arisen to join them as the Head of Philanthropy, to lead a talented and committed team towards securing substantial philanthropic support towards the Gallery’s core annual activities, acquisitions, and bicentenary projects. Reporting to the Director of Development and working closely with other Heads in the Development Team, you will play a key role in driving income across major gifts, patrons, trusts & foundations, and legacies, from the UK and internationally. You will achieve this through leading and motivating your talented and committed team, as well as inspiring prospects and donors in your own portfolio to deepen their engagement in the Gallery’s vision for the future.
To ensure your success in this role, you will bring substantial experience of securing individual major gifts at the 6-figure level or more, as well as having contributed to the shaping of the fundraising strategy for the organisations you’ve represented. The creativity, professionalism and resilience in your approach has enabled you to deepen relationships with existing donors as well as attract new supporters, and you have experience of navigating and working with stakeholders across a large organisation to develop compelling cases for support. As a collaborative and supportive manager, you have helped to bring the best out of others in your teams, and are valued as a trusted colleague.
