THE WHEELER CENTRE
Melbourne, Australia
Competitive
Closing 10/03/2025

Founded in 2010 as part of Melbourne’s designation as a UNESCO City of Literature, it hosts a wide range of events, discussions, and debates featuring local and international writers, thinkers, and creatives.

The centre aims to foster public conversations on literature, politics, culture, and society, promoting intellectual engagement and community participation. It also supports emerging writers through various programs and residencies.

Reporting directly to the CEO, you will take the lead in launching and driving a new development program to further the organisation’s mission and expand its community impact. Your role will involve designing, executing, and overseeing strategies to build donor relationships, secure funding, and promote sustainable growth. You will also be responsible for managing and strengthening connections with donors, trusts, foundations, and corporate sponsors.

You’ll bring a proven track record of success in fundraising and philanthropy within the not-for-profit sector, with strong experience in securing major gifts and private funding. Your deep knowledge of development principles, techniques, and best practices—including major gifts, donor cultivation, and stewardship—will be essential. You excel at building and maintaining strong relationships with donors, sponsors, and stakeholders, providing professional and personalised service to ensure a positive experience at every touchpoint. Experience working in small to medium organisations is highly desirable.
